Established in 1997 with the protected area of over 20,000 ha, Zhanjiang Mangrove National Nature Reserve (ZMNNR) is one of the six mangrove nature reserves in China. Proud of the largest protected mangrove area in China. ZMNNR was declared a Ramsar site in January 2002, qualifying it as “a Wetland of International Importance”, and has been one of the 30 internationally important wetlands in China till January 2007.
